We have been back on Abemama for about a week now. Ron Clark, his wife and two other men have arrived on Abemama. The shipping container has also arrived from Australia. This will be the last of many shipping containers that have come to Abemama via Ron Clarks assistance. The last large project to do at the Kauma Adventist Academy is to raise the cafeteria roof by about 2 feet to allow for more ventilation. The shipping container that is currently in Tarawa should clear customs by Wednesday and then transportation of it's contents to Abemama has to tbe arranged.
Our last two visits to Tarawa revealed a catamaran that was anchored off Besio port. One evening just before dark we happened to meet the man looking over the catamaran. His name is Nick. The owner of the catamaran, Dean, is from Australia. Just yesterday we made our way to Bike Island (which is part of Abamama) and encountered the same catamaran that was in Besio. Our many objective at Bike was to relax and surf on the outside reef. Craig and I loaded up the tender with the surfboards and went out to meet the people on the catamaran and do a little surfing.
On the catarmaran we met Dean, the owner of the catamaran, and Paul, a friend of Dean. Dean is good friends with Nick. We leaned that Nick is the grandson of the former queen of Kiribati and is connected politically here in Kiribati. We also learned that Nick's wife is a lawyer and is from the island of Abemama. We hope to establish a good relationship with Nick in order to assisit us with our efforts here on Abemama.
