Aloha kakou. Here I am, in Hawaii, anxiously waiting for Mauliola news. Jerry sent me this report yesterday, Oct-31, HI time zone. In their first hours out at sea the halyard for the reacher broke. Perhaps the witches were out there on Halloween, playing dirty tricks. Here is his report. I will post the new ones as they come in. You can see the vessel location on google earth.
"We are lugging along without our reacher averaging 10+ kn, but expect that to slow soon But we are prepared to use the motors when needed to keep above 8kn at least. Winds have been 18 - 32 from the NE lately forcing us to go more south and even SE direction. Seas choppy but not too bad with NE swell :-). We just lowered the main sail to a first reef (in case the reacher halyard, which is piled and stuck in the mast somwhere, would give us grief.) It reefed OK without problems. And we still are doing average of 10kn. As of now, (01:00 UTC), we are at 25.14S and 177.09W. Cloudy with some showers. - Jerry"
