I wish I could write all the details of the lovely day we had at the school. It was truly inspiring to see what the caring teachers did with so little resources. The theme of the day was "Literacy is the golden path to success". It was very impressive to me to see these young kids reading in both languages, English and Fijian. The kindergarden kids had read Snow white and many other fairy tales and they performed small parts of those tales. We all sat on the floor and the older people sat on chairs. The parents and grandparents were all dressed in their best. The colors of the outfits were bright and strong, reds, oranges being the most common. The children all wanted to see their photos in my camera. I wish I had taken more but from where I was seated I couldn't get too many shots. I did print a few of them when I got back to the boat and today I took them to Miss Molly, an amazing dedicated and beautiful teacher, for her to post on the school board on Monday. I am goiing to try to have all the photos printed in photo paper and send it to them.
Jerry and I today tried to have a meeting with the Headmaster to see what we can do to help to provide power for the school. They have a generator and a few solar panels but they don't have enough power to run the computers for more than 30 minutes a day. The headmaster was having a prayer meeting and the meeting will be tomorrow. Jerry and I really fell in love with this small community. They are the most soft spoken, polite and friendly people we ever met. We have so much joy just talking to the kids on the beach.
Hopefully I can download some of the photos. Please check on the galery link labeled Fiji later on. Dinner time here now. Got to say A hui ho, Tchau, Good evening.
