The trees are laden with these large tropical looking fruit. They look delicious but we are not so enthralled with the flavour and texture to keep them on board.

When they are hard they have a starchy texture and can be cooked like potatoes, mashed fried or boiled.
I boiled some, added a little flour and egg and made some pancakes. These ones are savoury flavoured with rosemary. I pressed in some canned asparagus and topped them with a dollop of Boursin cheese. I found them quite tasty, Peter was not so keen.
I also made a sweet version with mashed banana and cinnamon. Same opinions so I get to eat them all.


When they are really ripe they are soft and mushy and have a tropical guava like fruit flavour but with a starch after taste. Peter loves guavas so he was saving some to add to his muesli but in the end the Ramoras got to eat it.

No more bread fruit for us.
