Going, going.....

That is what the wind is doing..........going, going and tonight or tomorrow will be gone. I wish the same could be said for the 2 swell trains that make the sea heave and toss. The boomed out sails fill momentarily and then the swell throws the boat up, down, left or right and a crashing, clattering and shaking ensues as the sails spill the air that drives the boat. It settles, then repeats. Once the wind is of no real use, I will fire up the engine and motor towards Neiafu, Tonga which is still 2.5 days away. When the wind disappears due to the weather trough, there will be rain showers. I look forward to them (for a while at least) so that all the salt spray from the windy parts of this passage can be rinsed away. The exterior of the boat is a bit like a generously salted pretzel. Hmmm....maybe when that rain comes I'll have a beer. I finished my fourth book of the passage last night. It was "Quiet" by Susan Cain. Very interesting read. I read a lot when sailing. I have read 4 books on this passage. Sometimes a simple thriller for escape. When you go sailing on long voyages, it used to be that cruisers would swap paperbacks in port. While this is still done, the exchange of ebooks (and movies) is becoming popular. So one ends up with collections of ebooks that "do the rounds", shared with others. The problem with this is that it is like being given crates of books that are somewhat like what would be given away at the end of 2nd hand book fair. There are some in there worth reading, but you have to really dig through the 'rubbish' which predominates. I have become especially leery of collections from "The Bestseller Lists" e.g. from the NY Times. Sometime I may look through my Kinle and compile a list of books that I have been glad to have read. I shall now make myself an omlette and use up some of the remaining fresh vegetables which will otherwise be confiscated in Tonga. Until later.
