Peter and Mark choosing some Yagona (Kava) for our village visits.
It is customary that when we anchor at or visit a village we must present the chief with some Kava. With the chief’s blessing we will be welcome to stroll around the village, swim in the waters, fish and hike. I don’t think Peter and Mark will be dressing up as the locals did for the ceremonies though.
Sometimes the Yagona is ground and mixed into a peppery tasting swill for us to drink and sometimes the chief keeps it for later.
If they do mix it for drinking it is impolite to leave until all of the Kava has been drank.
