Update

Its been sometime since our last post and although there are some holes which will be filled in later, we just wanted everyone to know that Pisces is now on the hard. We have her store for the summer at Clarks Court Marina on the south coast of Grenada.

Samana Puerto Bahia Marina

Samana Puerto Bahia Marina

Its taken a week of sunshine, hot temperatures and great people both here on the docks but also walking about with the locals to finally say we are rested. The photo was taken during a horse back ride into one of the larger water falls in the are, Saito del Limon. One horse, one guide, one tourist. Our guides were spectacular and reflected the Dominican cultural tendency of having a great deal of respect for seniors. They assisted Grace, one on each arm, down and up the dirt and wooden stairs which led to the base of the falls, around rocks and across small streams. All the time addressing her as Momma. Ken’s beard was a curiosity for all the guides. They would stop and ask to touch it calling him Santa Claus. In Sousa, he was call Hemmingway, now thats a compliment.

On a trip into Samana, we were walking the large boulevard along the waterside park when a van made a “U” turn and parked right beside us. Out steps Sharon and Bob and their friends from Cabarete. This was not planned and turned out to be a great visit at an Italian themed cafe.

Pisces is ship shape for her next passage, across the Mono Passage to Puerto Real on the west coast of Puerto Rico. Fuel filters and oil changed, water tanks filled, fuel tanks filled, all jerry cans filled, meals prepare so Grace does not have to cook during the 146 mile trip. The route laid into the chart plotter to avoid the Hour Glass Shoals. This is the one passage that cruisers dread the most. If you don’t get the weather window right, well lets just say it will be unpleasant.

The process of clearing out of the Dominican Republic has started, first customs at 10AM. Then immigration at maybe 3PM and finally the DR Navy provides the final document, a dispatchio, at 9AM tomorrow. Each individual will not advice when they will be available, you just have to wait.

It has been a rainy day, hatches closed, hatches open, hatches closed. Better to rain today than tomorrow. This has been a great country to visit. Great people, beautiful countryside and it has everything a cruiser could ask for. We will drop a quick note on our arrival in Puerto Rico to let everyone know how we made out.

The next country awaits, Ken and Grace
