Swansboro
Although it was pretty cold Saturday morning (about 45 degrees, including wind chill), we took off—but not until 9 a.m., when it was a little warmer. We might have lingered longer, but we wanted to make the Surf City Bridge, since it only opens hourly (even though it was the weekend). We made it, with a few minutes to spare, and then, also, the Onslow Beach Bridge. At least, the latter opens every half hour. We had 2 dolphin sightings, and a red tail hawk in this early part of the day.
This was strictly a motoring day—the winds were on our nose (but, at least, 10-15 knots, versus the 20 knots on Friday). Wes had talked about Beaufort, but, although that would have been nice, it was just too far—and, any other place between there and Swansboro would have just been us out in the water. We hadn’t been to Swansboro before, so we explored it. Ashore the temperature was in the mid-70s—so we changed from sweatpants to shorts. We managed to find a pharmacy, so we could renew Wes’ medicine. That was less than a mile walk, and there was also a Piggly Wiggly, so we could get whatever additional groceries we needed—always a plus! The town was pretty nice, with a riverfront park, some historic buildings and homes and some nice shops and restaurants. We enjoyed eating dinner, while looking out over the water, and watching Merlin anchored with 2 other boats swinging.
Our lat/long to look us up on Google Earth at Swansboro is: 34°41.108'N 077°07.102'W.
