Day 16 Galapagos to French Polynesia

24 May 2010 | 4 days to go
W 8.5 K
Unbelievable....only 4 Days to go.

Here's a note from Simon...

Congrats on the job Julie ....a bit of a change after the last 3 yrs!We have renamed the workshop area The Gaza Strip as there will never be any consensus on that hideous sh*tp*t!!!!!!!!!

We have been under spinnaker all day and going along quite well under the most unconventional spinnaker setup you have ever seen but it is working. We are about 400 miles out and are all looking forward to getting in as it has been a long haul. The first of the boats on our (radio) sched has arrived in Hiva Oa today and we are next. After that there is a line of about seven boats with Greg on Fancy Free the rear guard. We are still using Galapagos time for the sched which is a bit out of kilter as the morning sched at 8.30 am is now being done in darkness by us. We will maintain the time for Greg but switch to local time when we arrive.

I suppose Ray mentioned we have logged a 200 mile day which was a surprise given the old girl has plenty of weight on board. We have had 18 meals out of the wahoo and Irish thinks there are a few more yet. I will put your lure out tomorrow as a nice small Mahi Mahi would be good. We plan to arrive at Fatu Hiva, have a few days there then move to Hiva Oa and clear in. Marno and Shelley on Attitudes have had a dissapointment and will have to pull into Hiva Oa to get some stainless repairs done as they have lost their wind vane and the autopilot is not that effective in wind above 15kts. Marno has run the net from Galapagos and done a great job. I tease him when doing the scheds by telling him he has a great face for radio which he takes in good faith!!!!!

Must go now as we will have to jibe this spaghetti junction before dark as we need the spinnaker up for the light conditions

About:
We left Australia on April 29, 2007 to start our 'cruising the world' adventure with an attitude that life's too short and waiting until retirement might mean the adventure never happens. Sam turned 15 this year and we hope these travels will stay with him for life...in a good way. [...]
Extra:
Also travelling with us is our Shih Tsu Milo, a seasoned boat dog all the way from Australia and an avid fisherman. He's always the most enthusiastic when we land a fish or when the bait net is cast. Actually, he's even enthusiastic when we haven't caught anything. He adores dolphins and runs like [...]
