Punishment for gossips and nags

Raining and coolish today
Today in the town square we saw a re-enactment of an old British tradition 'the dunking chair, originally reserved for nagging wives and gossips. The Town Crier runs the proceedings and with the assistance of the town constable (or in this case a bunch of enthusiastic males from the crowd) the accused sits at the end of a long beam that hangs over the dock into the harbour. and is ceremoniously dunked in the drink until she repents.
