Wet Night:

12 July 2010
Garrett
Last night was crazy wet. It went from sunshine in the morning to fog and low visibility. We had to raise our radar detector on a halyard because it had fallen off after the first couple of days. Luckily, we could hear some of our neighboring boat with AIS talking to the large ships and warning them of our fleet in the area. At about 3 in the morning, I saw a light in the fog and got the VHF asking if there were any ships in our vicinity. There wasn't any response, so I guess it was another sailing vessel. Oh and of course, I should mention that our mast head light is out now too. Now, we will be using our running lights at night, I guess. They are low to the water and will be harder to see than our light way up at the top of the mast.

Yesterday we took down the spinnaker and altered course due west. We were sailing too far south and were afraid that we would get into the zone with less wind. That gave some extra miles to the leading boats but hopefully we will be able to keep on trucking with the spinnaker until the finish line and make up some time.

Love to everyone,
Garrett
