Trailering Troubles

10 November 2014 | Jordanelle to Payson, Utah
When we decided the season was over we drove the boat onto the trailer. Pulled it out of the water. High Pressure washed it down with a sprayer that was there at the marina and drove it home.
I had asked someone how they secured a sailboat to the trailer and they had said that they are to heavy to move around on the trailer so no tie downs were needed.
So with just the trailer winch connected to the bow eye we headed for home. As we were going down Provo Canyon it got dark. Somewhere on this stretch of windy highway the front of the boat seemed to lift up. I stopped and discovered that the boat had moved back on the trailer at least 4 inches. I tightened the winch and poked the rest of the way home. The next day in the daylight we discovered that the trailer had taken some damage. The bow eye was now broken off, and a broken part of the trailer had made a divot in the lower hull of the boat.
