C&D canal to Cape May

We left this morning at 7:30 am to catch the start of the eastward flood tide. It worked and we sped along at 7-8 knots most of the way and even reached 8.5 knots near the entrance to the Delaware River. Once we turned south our speed slowed a bit but we kept going 6-7 knots for several a hours before the tide shifted again and we slowed considerably. As of noon we were still about 25 miles from the entrance to the Cape May Canal and going 4.5 knots. We've had our sails up and full since we got out of the C&D canal and the winds have been westerly all day. They are picking up now to mid teens and we are sailing nicely despite the current but still under 5 knots. Hopefully the current will shift shortly and then help us the rest of the afternoon.
The current did shift by 1 pm and we made great time motor sailing all the way to the Cape May Canal. We entered the canal about 4:30 and were able to get the staff at Utsch's to stick around till 5:10 pm when we arrived to help us dock. Thank goodness because we almost went into the wrong slip. We were told slip #6 but apparently ther is more than one. Anyway they helped us into the right one and we took the opportunity to give Merey Mac a thorough cleaning before showering and heading off to dinner. We took an Uber into town at Bill's request and saw a lot of the town for my first time. Very cute and much nicer than AC. We had a good Italian dinner and then finally got back home around 10. Crashing late now around 10:45.
