Merry Mac to Maine and Back to POW NY

Portland to Kennebunkport

We woke up to a beautiful sky and a nice Northwesterlly breeze. We shove off at 7:10 am although poor Jonathan was bleary eyed recovering from west coast time. It took about an hour to get out of the Portland harbor but as soon as we were clear we raised the sails and began taking advantage of the favorable wind direction. We sailed without the engine for the next couple of hours but the. The wind began to die and what wind there was, was blocked by land as we rounded Cape Elizabeth. We used the engine and kept pulling in and letting out the job as necessary. Finally the wind began to shift to an on shore breeze out of the southeast. We had been told by Marc to expect this and he was right today. Since we were headed southwest by then we were again able to sail and kill the engine. We made great time and continued enjoying the clear day as we entered the Kennebunkport River around 1:20 pm. By 2:00 pm we were tied up at Chicks Marina and we were eating our sandwiches in the cockpit. By 2:30 we were ready to explore the town so we pulled out our bikes and set about visiting. We passed St. Ann’s church and the Walker Point compound and then continued into Kennebunkport and eventually Kennebunkport. In the middle we stopped at Duffy’s tavern for a little sustenance. The picture is Jonathan and I in front of the Bush estate. Eventually we returned to the marina, showered and did some laundry and now we are heading out for dinner.
