Newport to New London

We woke this morning at 5:30 so the sound of a neighboring boat starting his engines and preparing to leave. We needed to leave the dock ourselves at about 6:45 to get to Jamestown Boat Yard by 7:30. Our departure was a little tricky as we had to execute a 180 in a very narrow channel with several large power boats on each side. It want elegant but no boat contact took place as we left the dock. We had some difficulty finding our destination but got directed to a mooring where we tied up and waited for help. The guys didn't arrive till 8:15 and it turned out to be two young kids. They were well experienced with replacing toilet pumps and got about the business quickly. Y 8:45 we had a working toilet and by 9:00 we were on our way out Newport harbor. The wind is from the southwest and that is our direction at the moment as we head to Point Judith. Eventually we will turn and hopefully be able to at least motor sail if not sail without the engine. Stay tuned.
well it turned out that we motor sailed the entire day and still didn’t reach Crocker’s marina in New London until 90 minutes after they closed at 4:30. Bruce and I had to dock at our slip without any dockhands and with a large power boat next to us. We came very close to calamity but managed to avoid any contact yet again. We met how with my cousin Peter and his significant other, Marcia, for a cocktail on the boat and then moved on to dinner at a nearby Thai restaurant. Excellent day despite the wind and seas on our noses. It was helpful getting inside Fisher’s Island to reduce the seas for several hours. Tomorrow on to Block Island.
