Block Island to Montauk

Today is our shortest day on the water so we took our time getting up and organized and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast in the cockpit. Very little wind in the forecast so we knew we would need the motor most of the day. We also knew that the Montauk Yacht Club staff would be off duty at 4 pm so we couldn’t delay too long. Just after 9 am we shoved off, a very easy departure since there were so few other boats in the marina. We put up the sails and tried to sail without the motor but when we couldn’t maintain a speed above 2.5 kts we had to crank up the motor. It turned out the motor was on 80% of the time but it was still a beautiful day to be out on the water. We reached Montauk with no issues by 2 pm and got settled, got the bikes out and were peddling to the Montauk lighthouse by 3. We got to the lighthouse about 30 minutes prior to closing at 4:30 and had plenty of time to climb single file to the top for pictures. Awesome views of Long Island, Block Island and the Rhode Island coast. Then back to the marina for cocktails, showers and a lovely dinner at the marina Gold Coast restaurant. Tomorrow on the Shinnecock. Sadly very little wind again in the forecast.
