Montauk to Shinnecock

Today started off with no wind so we motored from 7:15 till about 10:00. We rounded Montauk with the ebb tide and then turned west toward the Hamptons. Suddenly the wind picked up enough from the southeast that we were able to kill the motor and actually sail! The rest of the day went beautifully and we had many, many dolphin sightings. Peter and Marcia said they saw a whale at one point while my eyes were shut. We managed to pull into the Shinnecock inlet at 3:15 which was exactly high tide. We filled the fuel tank and then moved to an outside dock a little further to the west. We had some gruff attitude from the staff - this place is really only geared to fishermen - but things improved when Tosh came over to help us hook up our electric. Just behind us was a boat a 7 crew members who had brought in a huge yellow fin tuna! Wow! The DEC police showed up to make sure they only had one fish since that is apparently the daily limit. They passed the test. We learned that Oaklands restaurant is only open weekends now which is a bummer. It is the best thing about this marina. Maybe we will go instead to Cowfish Grill?
