Ever since Mary and I returned to the real world from vacation and the Miami Boat Show, I have been pondering what kind of work I want to do after I retire and living the boating life. I talked with a number of people at the boat show and all II heard was start your own business. My concern is I don't know anything about running a business and I wouldn't have the slightest idea of what type of business to own and run while boating. When I discuss this with people they always ask what kind of work I did before I retired and to stay with that. There is only one problem with that! I can't. When I retire I have to retire from my work, period. Mary doesn't have this problem; she can take her work with her. She's a beautician and massage therapist. In fact that would work very well while living on the boat, especially for me! But with me it's a totally different story. So I have come to the conclusion that one; I'll have to go back to school and learn a new trade before we take off, two; just stay retired and do nothing except sailing, or three; come up with something in my field that would work. I definitely want to do something during the six months we'll be back home and if I can work while sailing, the better. Mary and I have discussed going to Bartending School together then getting a job together, somewhere. That's intriguing. One gentleman at one of the booths at the boat show said I should start a business from a web site. That would be a whole new learning curve, I guess no different than going to a trade school but it all leads back to what type of business to start!. Another gentleman said that Mary and I should get our captains license and do some for hire cruises. Don't know if I want that kind of hassle and anyway he was just trying to sell his course. All I know is that I want to do something after we return home from our winter cruise. I do not want to sit around doing nothing. Having a job for those six months would help replace our cursing kitty for the following year. I guess if I knew exactly what our plans were for retirement it would help. But we just don't know yet. We are leaning towards taking off sometime in late 2013 for the islands and returning to the Chesapeake for the summer for family visits and part time work. Haven't decided just yet. What I do know is that all this indecision is giving me a headache. This I do have the answer for, It's time for my massage. I knew there was another reason I married Mary.
"Over to the left babe now down a little, there that's the spot ahhhhhhhhhhhh!"
Until next time!
