DOLPHINS, IGUANAS, JELLY FISH
07 February 2011 | Boot Key Harbor, Marathon, FL
Lynn/sunny 80's
The weather this past week has been perfect. Hot and sunny with a nice ocean breeze.
There is a pair of dolphins in the harbor who love to swim and leap around the boats. You know they are near when you hear the breathing noise that they make through their blow holes. I am unable to get a photo, as I can never guess when or where they will come up!
We finally made it to the beach via Sister's Creek on our dinghies. Brian and Steve went in the water and while Mary Ann and I were working up the courage, several Portuguese Man of War started to drift in to shore. That solved our decision. They are not actually classified as jelly fish, but the scientific explanation is too long to go into here. All that matters is that they have long tentacles that hang down in the water and that they have a toxic, painful sting.
The iguanas have been aroused by the heat too. They can be seen sunning themselves in the mangrove branches, or walking on the rocky shore near the Tiki Hut where we do yoga three times per week.

We have no problem keeping busy, but here are some highlights of the past few weeks:
We've been to the seafood festival in Key West.
We went to a music festival on Big Pine Key featuring several very good bands playing island music and a conch chowder cook off with proceeds going to Habitat for Humanity.
We finally got to the local cinema to see True Grit where we sat at a table and drank beer with our popcorn.
A recent fun evening was enjoyed with three other boating couples (LIVING WELL, SUNSHINE, TRAUMEREI) and ourselves where we walked across U.S. hwy 1 to the bayside Banana Bay Resort and enjoyed paella by the pool along with some musical entertainment.
Yesterday was the Super Bowl and the marina set up a big screen T.V. for the party.
And last, but not least, we were really pleased to receive a visit from Canadian friends, Roger and Carol who are doing a circuit of Florida (as well as a Caribbean cruise) and seem to really be enjoying their first winter both being retired.
Life is good.
