ON BOARD TWO MONTHS!

We have been living on the boat for two months now and getting back into the routine of running the generator two times per day to charge the battery bank. We have a Verizon MiFi hotspot on board which allows us to get internet on the mooring ball. We had great plans of using our "unlocked" I Phone down here, but Verizon transmits on a different frequency than Canada. So, we've been using the old "pay as you go" cell phone and Skype.
Captain Brian seems to just get ahead on the boat chores when a new gremlin comes up - this season it seems to be electrical things - like the salon light going out on us, and the mast light and the propane gas burner. Boat maintenance - no different than house maintenance I guess.
The weather here has been hot and sunny and we have enjoyed some fishing and snorkelling and lots of walking.
The public space in the marina is a busy place with plug-ins for laptops, a book exchange library, two television areas, crafts, games like Mexican Train (dominoes), seminars on cruising the Caribbean or the Bahamas or Knot Tying, Rigging or Celestial Navigation.
The daily VHF Cruisers' Net provides all kinds of information on local events - like plays and movies and Art Festivals, Seafood Festivals, musical entertainment at local establishments, health fairs, vegetable markets, flea markets …….the list goes on. Then there is the weekly jam sessions of local/cruiser musicians at the marina Chiki Hut. A lot of fun.
A week ago, we were delighted to be able to dinghy over to Sombrero Resort/Marina and see my cousin Bob play keyboard. Great voice, great talent, great time.
Captain Brian still has a couple more weeks to go before his allergic reaction will be manageable.
In the meantime, we continue to enjoy Marathon.
Life is good,
First Mate Lynn
