MIDORI ADVENTURES

As of today, we have been on mooring ball U3 for two weeks. Unfortunately, Captain Brian was ill with the flu for one of those weeks. Fortunately I did not succumb.

As soon as Brian was feeling better, we started our daily walks ashore. Slowly building up to the two mile walk east to the grocery store and back, or west to the West Marine Store, about the same distance. We have considered renting bicycles, but not sure we would benefit as much as we do from walking. However, bicycles would allow us to do more exploring. We also joined other cruisers doing yoga on Tuesdays and Fridays in the city park adjacent to the marina.

We have had several cold fronts come through - bringing rain and wind and cooler temperature. We are happy to be on a mooring ball with wind gusts reported to have been in the 40 knot range. However, I’m sure all our northern friends would be willing to trade places for temperatures at night in the low 50’s F (10C) and during the day in the mid 60’s (18C).

Friends Vernon and Rose from ROAMALOT have a slip at a nearby Marina, and there are about seven boats here from Charlotte Harbour Boat Storage, some on mooring balls including NAUTILUS and TWO CAN, and others at anchor including TAUREAU, GRATITUDE, and LIVING WELL. When weather permits, there has been get-togethers ashore or aboard or at local restaurants. There is always something to do including boat related seminars, dominoes, local festivals, music jam sessions and story telling.

Of course, we must not forget boat chores. We run our honda generator approximately one hour per day to keep the batteries and electronic devices charged. Then there is the usual cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, laundry and showers (ashore). Also, dinghy runs for gasoline (for the generator and dinghy) as well as block ice for our drink cooler.

Looking forward to a nautical flea market this weekend and temperatures back up to the mid 70’s (23C).
