We arrived at the Fort Myers Beach mooring field one week ago today. At the time we weren’t planning staying here longer than a couple of days, as we were bound for Marathon in the Keys. After securing MIDORI to the mooring ball, Brian topped up the inboard gas tank with two five gallon containers from the deck, we then lowered the dinghy and made our way over to Salty Sam’s Marina to get more gas. We returned to MIDORI, secured the gas containers back on the deck, grabbed our shower bags and proceeded to the dinghy dock.
After checking in with the Matanzas Inn, we had our showers and started walking to the beach and Pier. This is when I realized that I wasn’t able to walk very far without pain in my knee. (The soreness in my knee began in the boatyard after climbing up and down the step ladder and sugar scoop a “zillion” times a day! ) However, I managed to get to The Beached Whale for our annual feast of mussels.
On Sunday morning, we made a decision to stay put until I could get some Physiotherapy and cure the knee problem.
There is a great trolley system here on Estero Island, but there is some “off season” road repair going on and the scheduled service is totally out of whack! However, I did make into my first Physic appointment on time this past Tuesday and my second appointment on Friday. After a diagnosis, electrical stimulation, home exercises and some taping, I am doing much better, but I have yet to walk the beach!
This is the first time we have been here during the “off season” and we are quite enjoying. And, we always run into people we know like Don Hanson on RING OF FIRE, as well as Mike and Philomena on GODSPEED.
We shall be here through Christmas and reconsider our itinerary at that time.
Stay tuned,
First Mate, Lynn
