MIDORI WILL STAY IN BRUNSWICK!
12 June 2008 | Brunswick, GA
Lynn/Hot! Hot! Hot! (90 - 100 F)
Well, our insurance company came through and for a reasonable increase in premium we are able to leave MIDORI here over the hurricane season.
When things were finalized last Wednesday, we bought Greyhound Bus tickets to Richmond. We departed on Thursday at 5:40 p.m. and arrived in Richmond at 5:00 a.m. on Friday. Our friend, Mike, was there to meet us and drove us back to Reedville to Fairport Marina where he lives aboard his boat and where our truck had been parked.
We spent two nights on Mike's new 45' Hunter Passage - JULIANA. Over the winter, he had sold his house and bought a larger boat and plans on sailing South in the Fall!
We had a great visit and really enjoyed his beautiful boat, but the temperature was in the 90's in Virginia too. Apparently, this is not typical weather for June.
We said goodbye to Mike on Sunday morning and drove over to Smith Point, Reedville, to visit with Ray and Paula. If you recall, Ray had accompanied us on our first day out back on November 20th, from Cockrell's Marina to the Severn River Marina. Hard to believe how many miles we have traveled since then. It was great to meet their son, and future daughter-in-law.
We then traveled South to North Carolina. George and Nanette live South of Belhaven on the intracoastal waterway. It took us about 5 hrs to get there, with a lot of help from our new "Tom Tom" GPS Navigator. I don't know what took us so long to buy one of these. It is fantastic! Had a great visit in their lovely air conditioned cottage and departed the next morning back to Brunswick!
The truck has been running great by the way - all it needed was a boost - and the air conditioning is working well too.
The past three days have been spent unloading MIDORI and loading the truck, but it is difficult to get a lot done past 10:00 in the morning. It's just too hot! Luckily, we can retreat to the air conditioned boat, or the clubhouse, but we have to rest, drink lots of water and try not to overheat. We have managed to take down the jib sail - yesterday and the mainsail - this morning, but the sorting and packing and re-sorting and repacking continues.......................
We anticipate that MIDORI will be hauled out on Monday, June 16th. Then we will be on our way to Ontario.
