09 September 2009 | Tjibaou Cultural Centre
Leanne
Yesterday we said goodbye to "Muskat" headed for Mackay - Le Pan still in Marina as NZ forecast not favorable for them. Herve (Noumea Yacht Services) drove us to Tjibaou Cultural Centre in the afternoon which is located on the Tina peninsula approx 30minutes from Port Moselle Marina. It was an interesting look at the Kanak culture. It has an amazing architectural structure which from a distance looks steel, but is wooden, designed by Renzo Piano. We spent 3 hours there which included three life size Melanesian great houses - quite amazing Huts. like a huge Teepee, but better constructed.Herve collected us around 5pm and he took us to a look out - overlooking Noumea & surrounding Islands...some amazing houses built into hillside with spectacular views. Herve joined us for a sundowner onboard Migaloo...whilst John was helping a French Boat (Bruno & Carmen) with Qld Guide books and maps - they will photocopy for their trip downunder. A familiar voice was heard calling "Migaloo" on dusk - which turned out to be "Robyns Nest"- great to see them as thought it would be Oz later in year. John cooked for Le Pan, Robyn's Nest onboard Migaloo and caught up with all the new adventures had by Robyn's Nest - which included sharing a meal with one of the local surfer's we shared a wave with...they shot a deer for them & warned them not to go near the cattle as they would attack you. Funny night. Our galley water pump died whilst washing up last night...so off to chandlery this morning for a new one...maybe head for a museum this afternoon if weather clears, heavy rain overnight & this morning...grey skies again.. Au revoir.
