12/1-21/1/09 - We have been enjoying some great warm weather darting all over the Barrier Islands enjoying different anchorages and friends from USA - Linda & Brad (Steve friend onboard) who we climbed to MT Hobson with 8hr return trip (we did it in about 6hrs) spectacular view, rainforest, creeks with huge bolders and 1000 stairs to reach the top. Phew! I found the white sandy beaches I've been looking for...just can't get to them with the changing weather blowing SW/NW/SE/W etc. We enjoyed some great fishing off the Mussel Farm near Kaikoura Island. I caught about 8 Snapper, the biggest being 44cm...(I also caught a 50cm sweet lip..fun!) We walked into Fitrzoy and ran into some friends from Australia. Denis & Gail (friend Kay McGrath onboard) shared a beer at the Fitzroy Tavern and later had a great meal onboard their beautiful boat "Shannon Star" which they purchased in NZ. Summer Sky (USA Jim & Cindy) arrived at Fitzroy a couple of days ago so we have been enjoying their company, sharing meals onboard both boats & our fishing spot. Kiwiriki Bay was last nights anchorage, great holding. Strong wind warning from the West tonight so heading to Smokehouse Bay and will catch up with a few other boats we recognise from our travels. (Thanks to Bev for keeping up with our Blog & Kareen love ya) Cheers Lea & John xxx
