If at first you don't succeed .....
24 November 2014 | Ft Myer Beach, FL

We spent a few days at Cayo Costa State Park anchored out with several other boats for 3 days. Very peaceful, although the weather was cool & overcast. We left for Ft Myer Beach and had hoped to stop around Captiva Island or Sanibel Island but the draft of our boat & limited areas to anchor prohibited this.
We arranged to be on a mooring ball and arrived 3 pm in Ft Myers. We were fighting the current and 18 knots of wind trying to secure the bridle to the pendanent of the mooring ball. I was at the helm and Mike was at the bow (front of the boat).
We have done this several times over the years but this afternoon we we're really having a difficult time. Finally after 4 attempts, we secured the mooring ball. I might add, that this mooring field had lots of boats and the space was tight or so it seemed at the time! As always, folks were out on their boats and we provided afternoon entertainment...
We were preparing to go to bed around 10 pm when we hear a thumping noise. Mike goes out on deck and discovers that the pendanent was so long that the mooring ball & line was wrapped around the rear of the keel.
Now keep in mind the wind is still around 18 knots and the tide was opposite of the wind, causing the boat to spin around the mooring.
Mike tells me we have to undo the lines, remove the bridle from the pendanent & reattach. This means, in the dark, we have to motor up, circle around & do this all over. After 3 tries, me praying that we don't hit another boat, neighbors watch us, we finally get the boat secured. What a day! (And you thought this was all fun in paradise)
On Sunday, we went to a sand sculpture contest & I posted pictures in the photo gallery.
Today was paradise, we went to the beach and relaxed! White sand & warm weather.
Tomorrow we head for Naples.
