We Made It......
16 January 2015 | The Bahamas
MiJoy successfully crossed from Marathon FL to Bahamas without incident.
We left Tuesday at 9 am and arrived at our first anchorage, Chub Cay, on Wednesday 2 pm. Winds were light and seas calm when we crossed the Gulfstream. We motored the entire way & motored sailed about 1/3 of the time.
We left Chub Cay at 6am for Nassau to check in with customs & immigration. When entering Bahamas, you sail your quarantine flag ( yellow flag) until you have cleared customs. Once you are cleared, you hoist the Bahama flag. We arrived at 11, mike checked with the Marina & was told customs would come to our boat. (Crew is not allowed off boat until your're cleared). ( Mike got to brag he touch Bahamas legally first)
Customs came to the boat and approved our paperwork, took $300 and said immigration would be by shortly. 20 minutes later immigration came aboard & stamped our passports, took $20 for transporation fees and said welcome to the Bahamas.
By 2 pm we had purchased a Bahama phone and data card, purchased some produce at the nice grocery store and were back on the boat. We ate an early dinner at the Marina & I ordered a "yellow bird" in honor of my mother in law. She first introduced me to this rum drink many years ago and think of her every time I see the drink. Mike ordered the Bahana beer, Sands and we toasted his mother. We had really good fish tacos.
We crashed early for the evening and felt blessed to have made the passage so easily, knowing that our family & friends prayers were being said on our behalf.
Interestlly (at least to us) as we were in the middle of the Gulf Stream, we noted we had traveled 1300 nautical miles since leaving Kemah.
Hopefully we can now relax, since the hard part is behind us and I will be able to post some fun pictures. This pucture was taken from our slip at the Marina, which is across from Altantis hotel.
