This was a beautiful day. Had the head sail out, traveling 7.2 knots. It is a fun leg through Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound. Went across the bottom of the island and into the channel to Gorden's Bight. We were told this was a great anchorage. We learned to not take advice form a crusty sailor in a Sylvester tee and green plaid pants! The bay was beautiful but to get there we had to go through a channel nicknamed the "Miserable Mile". It is narrow with very shallow water on each side. Since this was Sunday afternoon there were "thousands" of boats, mostly power, returning home. We get out of the channel taking our sails down and hit the mud. The saying goes that it is not if you go aground but when. I guess we passed this milestone sooner that we hoped. At least a tow boat passed us and we hailed him and he pulled us off! For us it was traumatic but for most it is common.
