Sitting in the Bay

29 November 2015 | Simpson bay Lagoon, St. Marteen
The local radio station comes to life when we turn the stereo on.
"What is that" I ask.
Joh replies" I think it is some kind of classic saxophone done to a Jamaican beat."
"It sounds vaguely familiar. With the emphasis on Vaguely" I respond. As I sit here listening, trying to decipher what is playing I realize what it is. The lightbulb above my brain just turned on. "It's Christmas music."
"Well it is after Thanksgiving" responds John.
"I guess"
This song is followed by a christmas medley done on steel drums. "Maybe I need to get one of these for the Christmas holiday's to share with my family" I think to myself. "Maybe not"
It is Sunday morning and we are sitting in Simpson's bay on the Dutch side of St. Martin. The weather report is mixed with predictions of heavy wind so we will stay put for another day and then see how bad it is. We are so sheltered in the bay that we do not have a very good idea of what it is like out on the actual sea.
We rented a car and took a tour of the island. Have I told you that half of this island is French? Baguettes, patisseries, and great food are all part of the French. We cross the boarder and our first stop is for pastries. They are all so beautiful that it is hard to pick. We will just take on of each and waddle around for the next week. We did limit ourselves to one each.
The seas on the east side were very rough and on the west side not so bad. Since we are tired of sitting it is time to explore by boat. One nice thing about not being on a schedule is the opportunity to rent a car and explore the island from the inside out instead of outside in. Too many times you arrive by boat and that is the only way you ever see the Islands. Boat to the bay, dingy to the beach, walk the beach, go back to the boat, sail to the next bay. This year having time to explore will be a lot of fun.
Projects never end on the boat. During our crossing over from Virgin Gorda, my port (red for non boaters) light quite working. Having running lights at night are quite helpful when you cross paths with another boat. The only indication of where you are headed is your red or green light. Without the red I will have to only let other boats be on my Starboard side with the green light that works.
"I have idea" I tell John. " My headlamp has a red light. I will will just go up front and tie it on."
It actually worked very well but it would be better to make it more permanent.
The work never ends but neither does the play.
