Sailing
18 January 2016 | Charlestown , nevis
beautiful day with some scattered showers
The sun is slowly setting over the crystal clear Caribbean waters of Nevis. We finally made it off the dock on Thursday Jan 14. Over dinner the two nights before we (Mile High Dream, Liven Life, and Slow Dancer) decided we would sail to St, Kitts. This will be our flotilla or buddy boats as we call each other. I had the pleasure of sailing with Liven Life last year and they introduced me to Slow Dancing. We have been having an enjoyable time together.
A quick aside here-Green Flash- I am watching the sun set in hopes of seeing the green flash. A setting sun phenomenon when the sun shines through the sea just as it is setting to create a green flash. It is a rare occurrence and I have seen it a couple of times. The reality is that you are staring at the sun ( something that your mother told you never to do) and you are so sun blind that you can imagine seeing anything by that time. Red flash, orange flash, purple flash, it all depends on what and how many sundowner drinks you have already had.
Back to travel events. We had decided to leave for St. Kitts but the night before we changed to sailing to St. Barts first.
Linda my crew mate says “ You guys are always changing your plans. I can’t keep up with what is going on.”
I answered “That’s cruising and the cruising lifestyle. You become very flexible and just do what you feel like or where the weather takes you. “
St Bart’s is beautiful, opulent and you can tell who are the tourists because all of the local women on the island are not allowed to have more than 5% body fat. If they have more than that it all has to be in the right places. Or it at least seems like that. The men on the other hand have no restrictions. Sorry ladies.
We rented a mini cooper for the four of us and two others rented a scooter Off we went to tour the island. High on our to do list was Governors’ Beach. This beach was rated as the fifth best beach in the world. We decided that the beach official was a man and on this particular day that he was checking it out, it was filled with all of these 5% body fat women. Since clothes are totally optional I am not sure he would have even noticed the beach.
It was a nice beach with great waves but I have certainly seen many that I would rate much nicer.
The waves were so big one knocked me on my butt and dragged me back out to sea. As the waves were pummeling me and dragging me outward my short pockets got filled with so much sand that I almost sunk to the bottom when the wave finally released me. Good thing it was a clothing optional beach so I could shed those sand laden shorts and rise back up to the surface.
We left St.Barts and sailed to St. Kitts. Liven Life and Slow Dancing left in the morning to reach Antigua. We decided to stay and check out this area. We are currently moored in the bay outside the only city in Nevis. Nevis is the exact opposite of St. Barts. We are looking forward to exploring the island. As someone told us today, it is the last holdout of what the Caribbean island were really like before the tourists came.
