Boca de Soledad
14 February 2020 | Puerto Aldofo Lopez Mateo
Chip Prather | Sunny with a light warm breeze
Our stopover in Scorpion Bay/San Juanico was perfect. The little town hasn't changed much since our last visit 4 years ago. The anchorage is well protected. We left for the Boca de Soledad entrance to Mag Bay, 60 miles away, at 0420 with a great weather forecast for crossing the sandbar. An hour short of the entrance we connected with our pilot boat skippered by Chris Hoyt son of Bob the owner of Mag Bay Outfitters. Bob, a former San Clemente resident, played high school football with 2 guys with which I used to work. Small world. The seas were pretty small so, while we did some surfing on our way in, it was actually a fun ride. The biggest challenge was avoiding all the whales frolicking about at the entrance - no exaggeration, there were at least 50 whales! We are presently anchored in front of Puerto Aldofo Lopez Mateo for the next few days. From here we will move around Mag Bay until the weather is good around 2/23 to move on to Puerto Los Cabos. Whale watching and fixing tomorrow - right after touring the so-called "Farmer's Market" requiring us to be ashore by 0800.....
