Petting Whales
21 February 2020 | Entrada de Mag Bay
Chip | Perfet
6 days in Magdalena Bay and it’s time to move further south. We came to Mexico now hoping to see the whales in San Ignacio - that proved to be overly difficult since we’d arrived by boat. The option was to enter Mag Bay at Boca de Soledad which we did and were treated to no less than 50 whales. Our 2 dinghy trips out to the entrada were not nearly as spectacular - a good number of whales but we didn’t get closer than 25 to 30 feet. Nevertheless we were pleased with the experience and figured that was the best there was. Not hardly! From Pto Magdalena we hired Chrispin and his panga for 2 hours - absolutely a once in a lifetime experience. At the entrance to the bay everywhere we looked were whales - spouting, rolling over and turning tight circles. When our panga stopped over they came to take a look - up close! KT got to pet and kiss them - that’s how close they were. Absolutely an amazing day - so fortunate to have this experience! Weather looks good to head on so we are off to Los Cabos tomorrow - right out at the spot we visited today in the panga....
