Fish, Whales and a forgotten paradise

MtM/ finally warming up
Left Mackay this morning as the seas had finally settled down after the big southerly blow. We had a great sail up the coastline today, which was highlighted when CC hooked and impressive tuna mackerel, we were joined by a couple of whales 100m off to our side and then have found a wonderful little anchorage for the night called The Newry Group. Well protected, and lying off Seaforth north of Mackay, Newry Island was once a much visited Qld honeymoon destination back in the 1940 and 50's. The cottages were still used until the late 1990's but all that remains today are some building relics that are maintained by parks and wildlife. The area is national park and has a lovely walk and information boards detailing the bygone era. Glad we decided to visit another anchorage we missed last time. We will continue to head north to Townsville and Magnetic Is where we will catch up with Tom, Danni, Charlie and hopefully Mikey too in about ten days. Always exciting when we get the family onboard.
