26 October 2013 | Gili Air, Lombok, monkeys.....
Jumping a bit Faster –
There is so much to do and see Indonesia that we just can’t linger. Our visas are nearly up & need to be renewed. There’s over 17,000 islands in Indonesia! In any event I’ll skip over large areas of our adventures.
Highlights were Gili Air – where we went diving and enjoyed a this funky, kind of hippies island with no cars or motorcycles. You can even smoke pot or drink magic mushroom tea if you want. We actually went there twice as we decided to get our visa renewed in Lombok and had time to ‘’kill’’.
A day trip to renew our visa’s included Forest of the Monkeys and ancient temples.
On to Lovina Beach on the north side of Bali. It was Great to meet up with friends again and enjoy good restaurants. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see Bali like we wanted too, so that’s saved for a later date.
Our next jump was another 200 miles or so. We opted to go along the north coast of Java so we could see the island. Everyday consisted of 50 to 70 miles. While it was great to see Java, it is highly populated and the air pollution was incredible, making visibility around 2 miles or so.
We finally reached the small island of Karumin-Jawa where we rested for a few days and enjoyed the area. Believe it or not, it stressful getting up at 6 am everyday & doing such long miles…..so we did need some R&R.
We’re sailing for 2 days to Belitung (Belly-tung) where more festivities are happening. We’ll be meeting up with the rest of the rally there. Many people went off to Kalimantan where the orangutans are. While we don’t want to miss those big guys, we just don’t have enough time to go there too. That’s on the list for next season! Sadly, our cruising permit & visa’s are nearly up so we only have about 3 weeks before we need to check out of the country.
From there, Malaysia and Thailand.
