Ko Phayam – Thailand
This is one of our favorite spots in Thailand. There are no cars on the island, only scooters. It reminds us of what Thailand might have been like before Phuket became an international tourist destination. The beaches are long, white curving arcs. Resorts litter the beaches but it’s quiet and there’s really no party scene to speak of. We lucked out & the annual Cashew Nut Festival was on while we were there. Cashews are one of the islands biggest exports. The festival had food, music, beauty contest and games – the biggest thing that happens all year!
You can’t go to the island without going to the Hippy Bar. What a funky, crazy place this is! It’s a wonderful place to watch the sunset, hang out and meet people from all over the world while sipping on mojitos or a cold beer. It’s built entirely from driftwood and old planks. It looks like it might just fall down any minute but in fact it’s built pretty well. The bartenders are rasta, Bob Marley kind of dudes who love the music from the 60’s & 70’s.
Talk about just chillin out……
