Atlantic City

Hot and sunny
Day 54 – August 23rd 2011 – Atlantic City – 39 22.570N:074 25.279W
Sometimes when you are on an anchor ball, the wind and the current do not agree and cause the ball to hit the boat, well after working until 11pm last night this is what happened to us, could not sleep and then the anchor line got around the anchor and made another noise. Doug eventually woke up and sorted it out, it is now 6.00 so he said lets be off. Made coffee and motored out of the bay in the sunrise, beautiful, as we approached the channel which had huge rollers coming in, we saw dolphins playing on the bow. This is good luck or so they say. I have to mention again that I was not looking forward to this stretch from New York to Cape May but so far it has been lovely. Yesterday a fantastic sail and today again just as good, a steady 7.5 knots. It did not take us long to get to Atlantic City, we arrived about noon, drove around, picked up diesel, water and ice and then over to a restaurant for lunch. We are able to stay at this dock right at the restaurant which belongs to the Atlantic City Marina, where we stayed all night. Went for a walk and back to boat to shower and get ready to go out for the evening. Walked our feet off along the boardwalk through the casinos and the funfair on the pier, I threw away $10.00 and Doug spent a huge $20.00. Tried to find a nice quiet place to eat but is quite impossible in Atlantic City, ended up in a huge buffet with lots of noise and not very good. Glad I saw Atlantic City but I found the whole experience a bit sad and tired. I think the casinos and hotels on the inland waterway may be newer and more extravagant. We got back to the boat by 21.30 and watched the light show on the Harrah hotel and Casino, quite spectacular. I wondered if those lights flashing appear in the hotel rooms!!! I mentioned earlier that the dolphins are a sign of good luck, well I wonder, I called Kellie to see how Hurricane Irene was, it was past them but still pounding rain, she had experienced quite a lot of rain damage in her living room and told me that my apartment had taken a good hit and had a few inches of water throughout. She could not go over there until the ferry started again to access the damage. Thank you Kellie, I am so lucky to have you.
