Day 57 – August 26th 2011 – Summitt North Marina
I called Laura and Graeme to make sure that they had gotten in somewhere safe and they said they were heading to a marina about 50 miles from us. We hope to meet up with them on Tuesday or Wednesday depending on how we weather the storm. Right next to us are a lovely couple from Connecticut traveling with their son and two dogs on their catamaran “What If”. Bizarre sort of day, anticipation, excitement, dread all those feelings are going through me. Called Kellie and she is very concerned as she has already gone through this storm and said that we had to leave the boat, but we are hoping that it will move out to sea and we will only get a tropical storm, I hope I put her mind at rest. I convinced her that we would get off the boat if the marina told us to. People come together in times of need and we chatted with many very nice folks from all over. The marina is expecting 88 boats over the next few days. There was the fishing derby in Cape May and boats had come from as far as Florida to compete so many of them headed inland to this marina. Again so glad that we did not stay in Cohansey River and came here straight away. Chris from “what if” and I went off to pick up some snacks, a very nice gentleman named John drove us there and back and gave us all sort of advice about cruising in the Bahamas. The rest of the day we spent taking the boat apart, gib off, dinghy deflated, canvas off and many extra mooring lines put on. All the docks here have a dock either side which is nice so we can suspend Moma in the middle and there will be no boats bashing into us. It is hot, they say this is a hurricane hole due to 150 foot banks either side of us well not only that but no wind gets in at all so it is a very hot and humid. At last we went for a swim, yes we have a pool. I thought to myself how funny it was swimming and enjoying the sunshine knowing that we are going to be in huge winds and rain very soon. We had dinner at the restaurant here at the marina and wandered around the docks, down on A dock right in the bottom of the bay are the huge fishing boats, millions of dollars here and they were having a party. They had caught fish in the derby and were cooking it on the dock, OMG it was so tasty, we should have come here first. All of these people are staying on their boats, this made me feel happier. Many people who actually live close are coming to stay on their boats, they feel so secure here in this hole.
