Sun at last
DAY 8 – December 13th 2011- Fernandina Beach – 30 40.204N:081 28.156W
Still overcast this morning, tidied up the boat and then we went to see a boat that Pat had asked us to look at on B dock, I went back to Moma as it was very damp in the boat and I was feeling chilled. Doug eventually came back after a checking the boat thoroughly and said “come and meet Sylvie and Bill” who are a couple that Karen and Pat had met in Nova Scotia. We had a very nice visit with them and Spanker the cat on their boat EOS. Pinot was fascinated by Spanker who really was not that interested in her. We took their email and said that we shall definitely keep in touch. They are heading out to the Bahamas in January. As we left them the sun popped out and the skies cleared into a beautiful blue with no clouds at all. I am always amazed at how my spirits are lifted when the sun shines. So today we were able to cruise in good weather. We did not leave until 12.45 and wanted to get to Fernandina Beach this evening. We passed Jekyll Island and commented that the last time we were here visiting Barb and Ray we said one day we shall be cruising here and today is the day. Crossed the Cumberland Sound and passed along Cumberland Island, I was hoping to see a herd of horses but did not. I remember watching a lovely movie with Richard Gere and Maria Bello that was made on this island. As we crossed over the St. Mary’s inlet in the dark we noticed about 4 boats buzzing around with flashing blue lights, not sure if they were Coast Guard or Military as we had been hearing lots of talk on the radio about a Warship coming in Doug was disappointed as we did not see it. At last we were in Florida, Doug said we had now travelled about 3000 miles. Goodness that is a long way and I have to keep looking back at my blog to see all the really fantastic places we have been, this truly has been a trip of a lifetime. We took a ball at the Fernandina Harbour Marina, it is now 19.00 hrs, too late and cold to go ashore and I am tired and achy. Early to bed for me while Doug plots tomorrows leg.
