DAY 26 - December 31st 2011 - Rodriguez Key. Key Largo - 25 03.416N:080 27.205W
So today we had to make a decision, wait in Miami for Pinot's papers or head south. Doug checked the wind and it had changed and would not be a good crossing although there was no wind at this time and the sea as flat as a pancake, you never know what will happen when you get out into the Gulf Stream. Being a holiday weekend and not having got through to the Bahamas after trying at least 10 times and the phone ringing and ringing the decision is made to head south. Up anchor and off we go by 09.00. A beautiful, pretty and hot day so I settled in for a nice cruise down the Biscayne Bay. The bay is very shallow and it was cool and we were cruising along seeing the bottom. I even managed to get an hour out on the foredeck sunning, then decided I should be doing something so started work on the stainless, which is corroding rapidly, then cleaned a few bumpers. We turned left at Angelfish creek to get out to the ocean as the rest of the ICW at this point is too shallow for us. Once outside, we were able to sail for a while but not much wind so what did we do but motor sail? This seems to be the story of our life. After a couple of hours we arrived at Key Largo, apparently the Keys are shallow everywhere, we could not get into any of the marina's, maybe that is a good thing as we have spent so much on docking. We have to get used to anchoring. Headed over to Rodriquez Key and anchored there among 5 other boats. Did I mention earlier that all the jelly fish here in Florida are pink, well they are, big ones, little ones but they all have a pink edge and there are a lot around us right now looking down in 7ft of water. We are now heading west and the sun is setting right on our bow. I go below to cook up a fancy New Year's Eve dinner thinking about all our friends back home getting ready for the dinner and dance at the club. It will be a quiet one for us as Doug can only find two stations on the TV and they are both Spanish. Oh well a movie is in order, HAPPY NEW YEAR to all our family and friends. Wishing everyone a happy, healthy and hopefully wealthy 2012
