DAY 125 – March 24th 2013 – Frenchmans Marina - St.Thomas –
18 20.233N:064 56.364W
3-5 ft waves crashing into 2 ft swells makes confused seas and a bumpy ride, so the 20 miles to St. Thomas covered our nice clean stainless steel and canvas with salt and spray again. The first anchorage we came too we saw One White Tree a couple we met in Annapolis two years ago, we drove by and said hello and maybe we would go back there to anchor later. We then motored into the downtown area of the bay where the Customs were and took a mooring ball so that Doug could go ashore and check us in. While he was gone I washed down the stainless, canvas and cockpit, pointless but made me feel better. St. Thomas is very pretty, lots of houses dotted the hills, it is a buyer’s haven being duty free but today is Sunday and everything is closed. We still went for a walk and found an Ice Bar, a very unique 8000 sq. ft. of ice sculptors and a bar; we had to try this, after putting on parkers and gloves went in, it was lovely the ice sculptors all lit up with coloured lights changing every few seconds and a very long totally ice bar. After a few shots of liquor we left. I was getting cold and thought how strange it was leaving a bar and going out into the heat. In Canada we would have put our coats on to leave. On the way back to the marina we stopped and watched a baseball game with 6 and 7 year olds, lots of fun. Tomorrow we shall move the boat over to the other side of the harbour and do a little bit of shopping, I need a new camera.
DAY 126 – March 25th 2013 – St. Thomas 18 20.249N:064 55.749W
How quickly you get back to the cruising life, had a fairly early night and up by 7am for coffee and sit in the cockpit watching the planes land right on our port side. Lots going on, went ashore and while Doug went and had a much needed haircut, I took Pinot for a little walk and found some Mount Gay rum for Doug, he was very happy. Back to the boat and moved her over to the other side closer to the shops and where most of the boats anchor. Spent the day wandering around sightseeing, after walking up the 99 steps to Blackbeard’s Castle we found it closed on Mondays, so down we go. Stopped off at Tiffany’s and bought a necklace (I have always wanted one) then bought myself a camera as my poor Sony is not very happy. A nice day, tomorrow we shall move on to St.John
