Wishing you all a very happy New Year!
We have paid for a month here in Boot Key Harbor. Knowing we will be here I ordered materials online from Defender and Amazon including network cables, a longer radar cable, coated wire and hardware, cleaning chemicals, etc. And Sharon arranged for our Maryland mail to catch up with us as well as ordering vitamins and some kitchen tools that have worn out or rusted in the marine conditions of on-board life. In the meantime, I am getting some projects done and we are beginning to find a different routine to the day which doesn’t involve pulling anchor and moving on or studying if the weather tomorrow will support moving to the next location.
So far, I have worked on fixing the ground to the new engine temperature gauges I had installed previously then I took the Letra San apart, our marine sanitation device, to see why it would not go through the complete operational cycle. I had no luck with figuring out what is going on there. We haven’t been using it for the last year or so between accessible pump out stations and being in “no discharge zones”, but this project has been on my list to check out.
We began making new fender covers to replace the ones ruined in the NY locks this summer, not an unexpected outcome, going ashore to use space at the marina to cut the fabric. Once we get a mooring ball, I can tackle replacing the steering cables and the shift and throttle cables. Several other minor projects are on my never-ending list.
For now, we are starting the year with freshly washed laundry, an inflated paddleboard, and the bikes are ashore ready for easy use. The next month will be pretty routine so we will only update the blog sporadically until we start moving again.
