Bagels and Bikes

August 15, 2021 Sunday

We headed into town on our bikes to Goldbergs Famous Bagels to get lunch and some fresh bagels. It was a beautiful day with much less humidity than the last few days, and we enjoyed our bike ride. Sharon ordered some bagels to go and I waited in line to order our lunch for a fairly long time. The staff told me it wasn’t very busy now. that the line often runs out the door and down the sidewalk with people waiting an hour in line!

The food and bagels were delicious and I can see why the shop is so popular. We had planned a trip to the library or the beach but now my back bike tire was flat. While I walked the bike to a gas station to fill the tire Sharon headed to the farmers market and store for some groceries. We met up later at a small Hispanic café. Sharon said the farmers market was a disappointment with only one vegetable stand but she got what she needed.

Unfortunately, the tire would not hold air so we had a three mile walk back to the marina. About halfway back Sharon asked me to ride her bike back to the marina and put that bike in the dinghy while she finished walking the broken bike back. It takes time to prepare the bikes including taking off the seat and one of the peddles and then folding the bike and fitting it into the carry bags we made. Sharon showed up shortly after I had the first bike done so then I loaded the second bike and we headed back to the boat.

By the time we got to Monarch we were hot from the bright sun and long walk so we jumped in the water and spent the afternoon relaxing, taking turns cooling off and then laying in the sun to warm back up.

Dinner was leftovers and bagels followed by some long phone calls with friends.
