After the Storm

A seaplane landing in the harbor

August 23, 2021 Monday

Tropical Storm Henri turned to the north-west and stalled over Albany churning rain down on us most of the day. In the afternoon when the sun would peek out I would open hatches only to have it start raining again a few minutes later.

Sharon baked bread and I ordered materials on-line for the projects I was hoping to accomplish when we returned to Maryland including replacing the solar vents that have failed, finishing the fuel tank installation, and numerous other items.

In the late afternoon it looked like the rain was done so we launched the dinghy and headed over to the sailing vessel Alytes to offer Dan and Julie a loaf of fresh baked bread which they accepted. We had met them at the laundry mat and enjoyed meeting our conversation there. After a chat we headed into town for dinner.

The La P’tite Framboise had a special deal on a mussel dinners, Mussel Monday, which included a glass of wine or beer, and french fries for a fixed price. We ate at the bar and had some pleasant conversation with Will the bartender until the restaurant filled up and he got busy.

The menu had the mussels cooked about six different ways and we tried two of them and both of the dishes served with french bread were delicious. It was fun to see how many ways you could prepare mussels other than white wine and garlic.

We finished our meal headed out for a nice walk up the hill to the town center to walk off the meal. Sharon did a quick library stop to check it out for the future and we returned before dark to Monarch where we watched the sun set and the moon rise relaxing and talking about family and friends and our next adventure by car north to New Hampshire in September.
