Sailors and Songs

24 July 2022 | Rockland Harbor Maine
Mike
July 24, 2022 Sunday

We launched the dinghy and attached the new propane outboard and made our way into the town dock at Rockland. Sharon went to a Women Who Sail meeting of sailors from SSCA while I went to the local sporting goods store to have my dive tank filled. Then I went to Hamilton Marine to find some supplies for boat maintenance. Next, I went to Rock City Café for a cup of coffee and to await Sharon’s arrival.

When Sharon arrived, we had a pleasant lunch and headed back to the boat. Jim and Laurie on Kismet had come into the harbor and anchored and told us of some music at the nearby museum. Later we joined them under the tent at the museum for a fun event featuring sea shanty music and sea ballads from a dozen different Maine musicians. It was a wonderful event overlooking the harbor with the wind gusts blowing the warm weather away and giving life to the stories of lost loves going down with their ships.

After a quick stop at the local market, we both returned to our respective boats with the wind blowing twenty knots across the harbor. It was promising to be a blustery night with a strong cold front coming through overnight.
