Scattered Showeres

The town dinghy dock in Rockland.

July 25, 2022 Monday

We had on and off rain this morning with a few passing thunderstorms. The wind was steady and not as strong as I had expected. I transferred the fuel from the deck cans into the tanks and ran the generator to top off the batteries on this overcast day. When we had a break in the rain, we took the dinghy and went into the Journeys End Marina for fuel. I dropped Sharon off first at the town dock with the garbage and she went into town exploring while I continued on and picked up 25 gallons of diesel at $5.63/gallon, maybe the highest price we have paid on the trip since the Bahamas.

After fueling the marina allowed me to tie the dinghy up to the dock and I walked up the road to Hamilton's Discount Marine Store. I returned a couple of brass fittings and picked up a couple of different ones for connecting an extended fuel tank up to the generator to allow longer run times and simplify refueling. After an extensive search I located the little brass fittings.
Sharon had fun exploring town including a new book store which usually makes her happy.

I waited back at the town dock for her to return and then with her and the dinghy full of fuel we had a wet ride back to Monarch as the wind driven chop splashed up over the gunnels. On our return I ran the generator again this time to make some hot water for showers which were overdue. If you're a person who loves long showers every day and you want to go cruising make sure you pick a boat that can provide a lot of hot water!

Jim and Laurie from S/V Kismet joined us on Monarch for happy hour and even with a few passing sprinkles of rain we had a very pleasant visit. It is their first trip to the area so we filled them in on some of our favorite spots to visit on the central Maine coast. It was nice to have visitors onboard again something we hadn't had in our hurry up the east coast.
