Farm Cove

For the next few days we pottered around the southern end of Macquarie harbour - mainly around Birch's Inlet and Farm Cove. All of these anchorages are beautiful, calm and well-protected with 360 degrees of magnificent wilderness. Unless there are established walking tracks, and there are not many of those, you cannot penetrate the bush at all so it's a matter of looking only. Fish and wildlife are not prolific here, however we did hook up a trout and caught an Australian Salmon (which we think we will use for cray bait). There are some birds around such as black swans, herons, yellow-tailed black cockatoos and the endangered orange-bellied parrot but none of these are abundant. You can see why escaping convicts often resorted to eating each other.
Farm Cove is dominated by Mt Sorrell which rises over 1,100 metres above sea level and provides a stunning backdrop to this anchorage.
