Due to the isolation of the island we decided that it might be helpful to run a Lions glasses clinic which was hugely successful, giving out around 150 pairs of spectacles. One lady said that she had had her eyes tested in recent times but did not have the money to buy the glasses. Although my French is still tres mauvais (very bad), I did test and supply glasses to an old lady and had to use a Tahitian/French interpreter. Great fun. Frances was ably assisted by Mary, a PhD linguistics student - very handy indeed.
