Cy from Right Whale had told us about a glacier 4o miles to the north of Tonsina Bay that he said was worth a look. And it certainly was that – our first glacier experience. As we entered the fiord glaciers could be seen on mountains on both sides. About 2 kilometres from the main glacier at the head of the bay we encountered floating ice. To our delight we were able to pick our way through and managed to take Monkey Fist to the vicinity of the base of the main glacier. Intrepid Frances and Gavin took our dingy up much closer to the glacier itself in the hope of seeing some calving of the glacier front. They did this holding the belief that they could outrun the resultant wave it would cause. Possibly....
