More humpbacks
06 October 2015 | Stephens Passage, Alaska
From Juneau Frances, Todd and I headed south towards Petersburg, a little over 100 miles in a straight line.
As we headed down Stephens Passage we saw some whales off in the distance and we were lucky enough to be able to catch up to them. They were Humpback Whales and it was the largest pod we have ever seen. They were scattered all across the waterway – with anything up to a dozen spouting at the same time. We estimated that there was betweeen 40 and 50 whales. The closest they came to us was 25 metres.
