John the Hermit
27 October 2015 | Digby Island, Prince Rupert, Canada
The red yacht moored in the foreground (Macoma) that belongs to a guy named John Musgrave aka John the Hermit. He is 79 and he lives on his boat during the summer and on a floating cabin in an inlet well to the south of Port Rupert in the winter. Not sure why he is known as a Hermit as he's really a very sociable chap. He has been either rowing or sailing up and down the BC coast for the last 60 years. What a world of knowledge he possesses. He went to the trouble of writing out for us many safe anchorages between Rupert and Victoria (Vancouver Island) and it has been greatly appreciated. In the background is not a cruise ship (they finished up months ago), it's one of the BC Ferries. The tidal range in this area is around the same as Darwin - up to 7 metres.
